Our annual guitar courses are led by eminent tutors Bridget Mermikides (classical guitar) and Milton Mermikides (jazz guitar) and offer immersive tuition in repertoire (solo and ensemble), guitar technique, theory, sight-reading, arranging and ensemble skills, culminating in a final performance in a local venue. The courses take the format of small group teaching, one-to-one sessions, masterclasses and ensemble coaching. Each student receives a tailored programme to match their individual requirements and needs.
Daily sessions include technical development and warm-up routines, individual lessons on student repertoire, group sessions on the art of effective practice and coaching in preparation for the concert at the end of the week. Repertoire includes baroque, classical, romantic and Latin styles.
The jazz guitar course covers aspects of fretboard harmony, chord theory, improvisation, jazz and bossa rhythm styles as well as technical development. Repertoire is comprised of standard jazz tunes including blues, rhythm changes, bebop and Latin.
As well as a rewarding musical experience, there will always be opportunities to explore our surroundings. During the week, excursions are planned alongside the workshop schedule. These range from visits to UNESCO World Heritage towns to wine tastings and guided tours. But don’t worry, there is always a pool if you’d rather relax and unwind!
